Technical description

Crown 8o: trimmed 7⅛" × 4 ½", white wove, no mark,and in L2-L3 white laid, Haesbeek; 12pt. Imprint with 3-line dropped initials; line blocks; casing, spine white buckram, with printed paper label up: ‘* HANDBOOK OF WINE. WM. J. TODD *’; boards puce laid paper, upper cover label, white laid paper, 1⅜" × 3⅜" printed: ‘[within a border of stars **] A HANDBOOK | OF WINE *’; printed dust-jacket.

Note

In L 2 line blocks had been printed in the wrong order; to remedy this a 4-page cancel was printed, but on Haesbeek paper; the cancelling leaves show heavy impression and some set-off; on 'Todd's Wine Book' see Simon 1973, p.145.
