Technical description

Demy 8o: 8¾" × 5⅝", top edge only trimmed and gilt, artificial headband, white laid, Ellerslie; 14pt. Caslon; colour printing on B8r, I1r, K4r, M1r, M5r; casing, spine buff cloth, gold-blocked: ‘SPLEEN | AND | OTHER | STORIES | * | PIERRE- | VICTOR | CHAPMAN | & HALL’, boards white laid paper, pattern Kzb no.13 in pink black and purple; dust-jacket of same paper with pen-and-ink label over spine and printed label over upper cover.

Notes

Besenval was a Swiss officer who served with distinction in the French army and spent much of his life at court.

H.B.V. stands for Vyvyan B. Holland, general editor of this series.
