Notes

Not in Curwen Library or 1963 handlist; added at the suggestion of Douglas Ball and Pat Gilmour Ac1.

G. B. Harrison is named as Editor at end of Introduction, p.22

Shown at the Zwemmer Gallery 1930 (see Mzi).

8 full-page hand-coloured stencilled illustrations were done by Curwen Press; according to Herbert Simon (Simon, 1973 p.217) the total was 5, but it was actually 8 — he possibly overlooked 3 in The life and death of Mr. Badman.

The complex collation may reflect a change of plan when Harrison concluded (by February 1927) that The life and death of Mr. Badman was Bunyan's original intended sequel, so the printer unexpectedly had to fit into the gatherings before B lengthier introductory matter.

See Dreyfus 1981 cat. 55 :identifies Koch's gothic typeface and describes aspects of editing, illustration and production.
