Technical description

Royal 4o: 11⅜" × 9¾", top edge only trimmed and gilt, artificial head- and tail-bands, white laid, no mark; 12pt. Baskerville; line block illustrations; the conjugate pairs inserted are not tipped in but folded about ½" from the hinge and sewn through, leaving their hinges as stubs; every such pair bears a line-block illustration on the outer page of one leaf, text on the outer page of the other leaf, and the opening between them blank; casing, black vellum, gold-blocked on spine: ‘TAMBURLAINE | THE GREAT — | MARLOWE’.
