Technical description

Crown 4o: 9¾" × 7¼", trimmed, white wove, no mark, inserts similar but thinner paper; 14(+3)pt. Walbaum; line block decorations in text; colour lithographs on inserts; casing, maroon cloth, spine gold-blocked: ‘OLD | FASHIONED | FLOWERS | SACHEVERELL | SITWELL | COUNTRY | LIFE’, and on upper cover: ‘OLD FASHIONED FLOWERS | SACHEVERELL SITWELL’; printed dust-jacket.

Note

Douglas Ball, Aberystwyth, reported 1/Apr/1977 variant colours of cloth on casing, e.g. 'original green cloth' (Howes Bookshop catalogue 183 no.472 May 1973) not noted in Fifoot's bibliography; Stephen Massil reports N.T. copies: Wimpole Hall 'red cloth, wrappers kept', Scotney Castle 'green cloth', so also Mottisfont.
