Technical description

Crown 4o: 9¾" × 7⅜", trimmed, top edge gilt, artificial head- and tail-bands,white wove, no mark, inserts similar; 12pt. Bembo; line block illustrations in text; collotype illustrations on inserts in [A] and D and sections [1-2] and [3]2+3; casing, light blue buckram, spine gold-blocked: ‘MORSE | [rule] | Pierre | du | Gua, | Sieur | de | Monts | Quaritch | London | 1939’.

Notes

Curwen library copy was un-numbered.

Pierre du Gua (born in Saintonge, France c.1560) was the founder of Port-Royal, the first permanent settlement in Canada, Governor of Acadia.
