Technical description

Crown 8o: 7⅜" × 4 ⅞", trimmed, white wove, no mark; 8(+1)pt. Times; casing, black cloth, gold-blocked up spine: ‘DISCHI FONOTIPIA’; upper cover bears circular printed paper label impressed into 3¾" diameter space on cover, printed in green with design from label of Fonotipia gramophone disc, in red with the words : ‘DISCHI FONOTIPIA | Numerical Catalogue — A Golden Treasury | Compiler – J. R. Bennett, Publisher – J. Dennis | IPSWICH | R.C.S. 1953’ and in black with the signatures of compiler and publisher and the serial number of the copy.

Notes

Bennett's first discography; sub-title alludes to Palgrave's anthology of English poetry; the compiler is not related to Sir Richard Rodney Bennett or the family of Sir William Sterndale Bennett. WorldCat gives his forenames as John Reginald.
