Technical description

Royal 4o: 12¼" × 9⅜", top edge only trimmed and gilt, artificial headband, white wove, no mark; 18pt. Baskerville; collotype illustrations, laid paper insert in [1] bears print of etching signed in pencil; [3-6] are made up of 4 single leaves each bearing collotype illustrations, joined by linen guards; before each plate is a tissue bearing its caption; in the centre of each section a single tissue leaf, conjugate tissue pairs around the inner pair of plates, and in [3] and [5] around the outer pair also; casing, red buckram gold-blocked up spine: ‘SIXTEEN DRYPOINTS AND ETCHINGS OF THE GREAT WAR * PERCY SMITH’, and on upper cover an arabesque design by the artist.

The watermark VGZ stands for Van Gelder Zonen.
