SIMON [short double rule] THE WINE AND FOOD SOCIETY LONDON’.
This is the second of 9 sections which together form this encyclopedia; it seems probable that each section was published in 2 versions, one hardback and the other paperback; also most sections were reprinted several times. Those copies examined either at Curwen or the B.L. are described here, but for some sections it has not been possible to trace and describe both versions. As a result evidence for the Date or the Wrapper colour of some sections may be lacking.
The complete set comprises I Vb Sauces, II Wb Fish, III Xd Vegetables, IV ZAb Cereals, V Yg Fruit, VI ZBs Birds, VII ZCr Meat, VIII ZDq Wine, IX ZDr Cheese + Analytical Index.
Where comparison of both editions has been possible the only changes found have been: the Society's address on the t.p.; the type of paper used; slight variation in page-size; one slight change in pagination Wba; and of course the change in the note of the Impression on the verso of t.p.
1940 printing in B.L. has address and date on t.p. as Vba, and paging ends -118 [+4]; paper wrappers light blue, otherwise as above.
