Technical description

Demy 8o: 8½"×8¼", trimmed, all edges gilt, white loaded paper; 12(+3)pt. Times; halftone illustrations throughout, including some in colour; bound, sewn on 4 cords, boards in blue buckram, gold-blocked up spine: ‘THE HISTORY OF THE BRITISH ALUMINIUM COMPANY LIMITED. 1894-1955’; blue printed end-leaves, at front maps, at back chronology.

Notes

Percy Hennell, the colour photographer, was head of design for The Metal Box Company, born 12/Oct/1911, died 23/Jan/1971. After pioneering a non-fading technique for colour photography of plastic surgery during World War II he later worked with André Simon illustrating books on wine.
